I'm Ben Lovelady, creator of TruWindI'm a theoretical physicist by training, but a bizarre series of events led to me exchanging carpentry work for kite lessons. The second I felt the power of the kite I was hooked, and I took an engineering job to afford gear. Every chance I could I'd kite, whether that meant driving for hours on weekends or working early so i could sneak in a sunset session after work. I loved kiting so much I eventually left my engineering job to become a kite instructor. I love sharing my stoke for kiting, but I missed working on hard problems and making cool stuff. One day, after the most confusing session I've ever had, my friends and I were trying to understand what caused us to get nice loft at one tiny spot but then get dropped after drifting 50 meters downwind. I thought to myself "wouldn't it be cool if you could map the wind in 3d?" TruWind has grown from that concept into a real-time wind sensor with kite motion analysis. It's been a lot of work, I've had to learn so much: analog circuit design, pcb design, web development, app development, etc. But it's been super fun and I'm excited to share it with you!The day I discovered kiting, standing behind the board rack I built in exchange for lessons.
